Meet Sheree Elaine, author of the Dragon for Dinner series. If your kids love dragons and have big imaginations, these stories are written just for them!

Tell us about yourself!

I am a wife, mom, and author. I enjoy reading (obviously!), long walks with my kids, and playing with my big black lab, Ren. I spend my days balancing kids’ schedules and the stories I’m inspired to write!

Tell us about your books.

Dragon for Dinner is a middle grade fantasy book for kids 8 to 14. The book has a dad who is gone in a military assignment.

What kind of child are you trying to reach with your books?

This book is perfect for dragon-loving kids with big imaginations. Each book in this series has a fantasy character come out of the book (dragon, troll, phoenix).

Give us a little flavor of some great characters or the setting.

James is a sixth grader who dreams of being a reporter when he grows up. He’s quiet and thoughtful.

Grace is his fourth grade sister who wants to be a chef when she grows up. She is spunky and tenacious.

Mom is a go-getter. She enjoys her new job at a dentist office and raising her wonderful kids.

Dad is away on a military assignment. He’s very missed and clearly influential in his kids’ lives despite the distance.

Blue is a small yet high-energy dragon that comes out of the book his neighbor Stan gave him.

What inspired you to write this series?

As I began my work on the King Kids Series, this idea came to me, and I ran with it. I wanted to challenge myself and write longer books for a slightly older age range.

How did you know you wanted to be an author?

I’ve done promotion work for author for years, so when the idea came to write this series, I thought, “Wait, I could actually do this!” And I never looked back.

What’s one middle grade book you always recommend?

The Chronicles of Narnia Series by C.S. Lewis

What advice do you have for aspiring writers?

Just do it! Fear and self-doubt are always going to be there, so do it anyway.

Also, tell someone you’re writing a book—don’t keep it a secret!
