Tell us about yourself!

I was born and raised in Minnesota, where I live with my amazing wife, Sue.

My mission is to inspire as many kids as I can to read, write, and enjoy the outdoors. I do this as an author, by having young readers follow Lucky Luke on amazing hunting and fishing adventures in the one-of-a-kind book series, Lucky Luke’s Adventures. To compliment the books, I use my unique outdoor theme to inspire, teach, and entertain kids through world-class presentations.

Tell us about your books.

Currently, I have written twenty-two books.

Twenty of my books are in the Lucky Luke’s Adventures series. In the series, there are four picture books for kids ages four to six and sixteen chapter books for kids ages six to twelve. All of the Lucky Luke books are hunting and fishing adventures based on real-life experiences that hook even the most reluctant reader boys.

I have two faith-based books, one geared toward kids. Grandma Introduced Me To My Friend Jesus is a wonderful chapter book that has been enjoyed by thousands.

What kind of child are you trying to reach with your books?

The Lucky Luke’s series is perfect for kids who love the outdoors, animals, and specifically hunting and fishing. Reluctant reader boys can’t put the books down, and girls love that many of the stories have Crystal as the hero.

Give us a little flavor of some great characters or the setting.

The main characters are Lucky Luke, his sister, Crystal, and his dad and mom. The reader follows along as they go on all kinds of hunting and fishing adventures from the mountains of Colorado to the north woods of Minnesota.

All the stories are based on real-life experiences, with lots of fun twists. Each story is filled with life lessons, teamwork, camaraderie, and cherished family time.

What inspired you to write this series?

My journey began in 2011 after selling my share of our family steel fabrication business to my brother. Soon after, I had a life coach ask me what I have or do that is different than anyone else.

The only thing I could come up with was the journal my mother gave me when I was young. The initial entry was about my first whitetail deer hunt when I was twelve years old. After that magical weekend, I kept detailed notes of many of my hunting and fishing adventures until I was thirty-two years old.

I was sent away to go figure out how that magical journal could inspire my next adventure. That led me to meeting a very persistent author who insisted I share the stories through children’s books. That began an adventure I had never seen coming. After the first book was written, the response was so overwhelming I felt obligated to continue writing.

How did you know you wanted to be an author?

I had no idea that I wanted to be an author. Without the nudge of another author to challenge me to write my first book, I would have never given it a try. It wasn’t until my sixth or seventh book that I even considered myself an author. It just didn’t make sense to me that I could do it.

What’s one chapter book you always recommend?
